Celebrations at this time of year were once different, i remember that even when i was a child (some say i still am, but i try to full the world i grew up) things were different.

These days kids are visited by 3 men with presents: st. Nickolas, Santa and Dedek mraz ( Grandpa frost? - the dictionary says Jack Frost, but when i googled images on that i was damn sure this ain't the same person, cos granpa figure is nice and giving he's maybe even greater than Santa) on 5.12, 25.12 and on 1.1.

When i was little we didn't have Santa maybe this was due to the political orientation where most of the people weren't (that) religious, but we replaced santa with a cool guy dressed in grey who came on the first day of the new year. On the other hand i did get visited by another religious character: st. Nick when i think of it now i believe he came to our house as an upringing method: i was a verry naughty child and they said if i'll be god i shall get presents from st. Nick, but if i'll be bad the devil (that accompanied st. nick, and rattled with chains) will take me. I was scared 4 days before and 2 days after the scarry date otherwise i continued to be same old bad me up until now.

i would like to know about your experiance. do you know all these 3 guys? do you know any of them? who visited u?

Dedek Mraz is a guy, who we call Ded Moroz, he comes through the window and looks a lot like grandpa on last pic of this post :)

So DOES DED MOROZ GIVE YOU ANY PRESENTS?
He is more grey and white right? i googled this slovan mythic character and i saw that russian people know him too and on the pics he wore red (which was starnge to me cos santa should were red, on the other hand red is the color of comunists :p) and on some pics i saw blue, dark blue ded moroz from russia. all of this is kinda confusing i guess dedek mraz character doesn't have universal definition.
sadly we only remember this character here, and some people don't even know him anymore, but ded moroz doesn't bring us any presents i guess we gave him away together with socialism.
    tnx for your data :)

Yeah, he brings presents, it is his main mission, and also he shows the path in the snow storm, manages winds and frost (reduce for people). Originally he wore red long fur, decorated by silver and diamonds with swan’s fluff edging. Red is the symbol of richness and luxury, silver is a purity and cleanness. Ded Moroz has looked so before communists :P and before Christianity (Santa Klaus), he was a spirit of winter, not that much kind as he does now. Blue and white coats are wired ideas of theatre costume’s designers. It is really sadly, capitalistic Santas attack and force out Granddads Frost even in Russia…

so coca-cola stole the appearance of slovan frost character, comercialised it and pasted it on their santa clause (who should be baby jesus, cos baby jesus visits on christmas - isn't that confusing? grandad and baby?) and oving to comercials our frosty fellow lives in the shade of forgtfulness that santa throws at him.
siva kučma bela brada (gray fur hat, white beard), zopet prišel je med nas dobri stari dedek mraz - says our childrens song, i don't hear children singing that anymore. red or gray dedek mraz we (children of socialism :P) still remember you, we love you :)
i have to ask my granny if there was a dedek mraz here before TITO. You really know stuff girl :)
